There have been so many posts on social media these past few days about the “in between time “of Christmas and New Year. It has made me think its not unlike a “comfort zone”. We all have expectations of things being different, what will the New Year bring that 2018 may not have. How was your Christmas? Did it go well? Did you get dressed up and go out? Or did you stay in your comfort zone?

What keeps you in your Comfort Zone?

Last night I did exactly that. I got myself dressed up in a sparkly dress, put my heels on and went out for a night out in the city – Valencia. I am no stranger to getting dressed up and feeling good about myself , after all I am from Newcastle ( party city of the UK!). But last night was a little different. As I walked to the bar area it quickly became obvious that I looked different. Yes this is a fairly conservative city. People mainly dress in dark colours and casual clothes, but on a night out? Who buys all the sparkly clothes that are in all the shops? I suddenly could feel myself out of my comfort zone and wanting to go home, curl up on the sofa and put my PJ’S on.

The problem with thinking like this is, it keeps us stuck, it keeps us safe. Comfort brings a sense of familiarity and calm but it can also prevent us from being curious. Curious about what is, curious about the past and ultimately curious about what’s next.

” A comfort Zone is a beautiful place but nothing ever grows there” (Anon)

5 Reasons to step out of your comfort zone…

  1. Opportunity to grow
  2. Learn about yourself
  3. Expanding yourself and your creativity
  4. Increase your self-confidence
  5. Learn to deal with challenges
  6. Life becomes more interesting
  7. Build new relationships

Ultimately when we are open to become comfortable with being uncomfortable, change and growth really take place. Good things don’t happen to us because we want them to; they happen to us when we take action, make changes and are willing to step out of our comfort zones.

Finally – Im not going to hide away in my PJ’s and dark clothes I am going to continue to show my sparkle ……..
